Gabby Giffords is a caring person. But only when it comes to caring about how to save herself.
When Gabby decided to condemn the MoveOn.org ad that attacked General Petraeus, she cast a vote that had ‘hypocrisy’ written all over it. In committee, Gabby voted to not let the issue reach the House floor for a full vote, saying that it would take away from the real debate on Iraq. Of course there was no mention by her about how the MoveOn ad itself shifted the focus of Iraq to attacking our troops who have served our nation so admirably. Once the bill reached the House floor, she voted in favor of it.
But now she is backpedaling on her vote. The Politico recently e-mailed Gabby’s office to ask if she would stop accepting campaign donations from MoveOn, and this is the response her spokesman CJ Karamargin sent back:
“[MoveOn’s members] care deeply about a number of issues that also are important to the congresswoman.” He tried to spin it by saying that Gabby is not beholden to donors, which is why she voted for the resolution on the House floor, however, she won’t be giving back the thousands of dollars she has received from MoveOn.org.
But here is where the plot thickens. Before MoveOn ran the Petraeus ad, they ran a poll on their website asking if the group should “support primary challengers against some Democrats who side with the president on Iraq.” When pressed about the issue, the groups Communications Director Jennifer Lindenauer said she could not give a definite answer on what they would be doing with Democrats who were not working hard enough to end the War in Iraq.
So now Gabby has a problem. She represents a military district that will be very irate with her if she continues to slander them by supporting MoveOn.org and taking their campaign contributions. However, if she rejects MoveOn, then they are likely to run a primary challenger against her that would quickly dry up her campaign funds, making things a lot easier for her Republican challenger, should she make it through the primary.
Seems like Gabby needs to figure out real fast who it is she is really working for. Her constituents, or a special interest group?
Please keep posting - the info is great!!
Last time I checked District 8 was not a “military district” but a district that is intended to give structure to the process of representing the people who live within it. Perhaps you are referring to the political manipulation of AZ district boundaries to divide Tucson so that its “liberal” population has no representation and no ameliorating influence on “the miliatary district.” Gabby is no liberal. Neither is Pelosi. Pelosi took impeachment off the table before the House could even utter one word about it even though the nation voted to put Democrats in power in ‘06 under a stop Bush - Stop the War mandate. You are right that Gabby is masquerading and hiding her true colors, but those colors are the colors of the moderate Republican that she really is. If she had any integrity at all she would have stayed in her own party as a pro-choice, pro-woman, Zionist-leaning Republican that she is.
