Apparently, Gabby Watch is not the only the place that recognizes the irony of Gabby Giffords induction into the group of so-called fiscally conservative and independents Democrats, called the Blue Dog Coalition. Robert Robb of The Arizona Republic has taken notice of what this website has been saying for quite some time.
In his July 22nd column, Robb mentions how Gabby was chosen to be a member of this exclusive group, however: “Giffords, so far as I can tell, has yet to cast a vote in deviation from Democratic orthodoxy.”
Robb is absolutely right. When did Gabby ever cast a vote against the Pelosi-party-line on a significant, nationally recognized issue. The answer is never. In fact, in the first half of her first year as a member of Congress, she voted eye-to-eye with Nancy Pelosi 96% of the time. But when her first vote cast as a member of the House was for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, no one should really be surprised. She has also proved her worth as not a liberal, but a leftist by torpedoing workers rights by casting a vote for H.R. 800, a bill strips unions of the rights to secret ballots. So Gabby is automatically out of the category of being an “Independent Democrat”.
Not only is Gabby failing to prove herself as an independent, but she’s striking out fast in the category of fiscal conservatism. She has requested over $327,000,000 in pork projects, far out-pacing the ultra-liberal, ultra-leftist Raul Grijalva’s $178,000,000. She has stood behind Nancy Pelosi and voted a tax hike which totals $39,200,000,000 (the largest tax increase in American history) over the next 5 years, costing Arizonan’s an additional $2,701 a year in taxes.
Raul Grijalva and Nancy Pelosi have never and won’t ever apply to be members of the Blue Dog Coalition because their records obviously speak against them. Just like Gabby’s should and is obviously beginning too. The pork and the taxes should have been reason enough not to call Gabby a fiscal conservative. The hand-in-hand voting with Nancy Pelosi should have been reason enough not to call Gabby an independent. Yet for some reason, Gabby Giffords is still a member of the Blue Dog Coalition.
Maybe Gabby should start the non-exclusive group, the Democratic Blue Lemming Coalition.
