Today in Tucson, our esteemed Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords is making an appearance with ultra-liberal House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland. In her ongoing campaign to keep her feet in the Democrats inner-circles, Gabby has brought Steny to Arizona to stump for her.
You know, stumping for someone in their ballpark usually means you’re there to tell everyone that their representative in Washington is a fantastic person, working hard, doing what is right, and defending America. So what is Steny supposed to say about Gabby?
Some Pima Democrat: And here he is, our great leader in the U.S. House, Steny Hoyer!
[Some cheers, some boos from the ultra-left upset about Iraq]
Steny: Thank you! It’s always good to be in Tucson, especially when I’m here to talk about someone I have had the pleasure working with in the 110th Congress. You know, Gabby Giffords is a Congresswoman with a character unbeaten. In 2006, she promised you change in Washington, and her first vote cast as a member of the United States House of Representatives was to elect Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House! And change has come!
[Moderate Cheer]
Steny: She has stood with Arizona’s finest - Raul Grijalva, Harry Mitchell, Ed Pastor - and declared that more taxes on the American people is the best thing for our economy!
[Cheers from the ultra-left, light applause from liberals, moderates confused]
Steny: She has stood firm in her liberal principles, and declared that unions should not have the right to a secret ballot! Doing so, Gabby has said she wants radically alter Arizona from being a right-to-work state!
[Some applause, some confusion]
Steny: She has stood firm in her belief that Iraq is not where our soldiers should be! Our soldiers should be fighting in places where terrorism is a real threat! My friend John Edwards has said that the War on Terror is a manifestation of the Bush Administration, and that is a principle that myself and your Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords stand united behind!
[Explosion of cheers from ultra-left, but still quiet as the rest of the crowd has left in disgust of their 'moderate' representative.]
