AZGOP Slams Giffords, Mitchell on Iraq Vote

In a press release from the Arizona Republican Party, Chairman Randy Pullen hits Gabby hard for her vote on H.R. 1591.

Phoenix, AZ - Randy Pullen, chairman of the Arizona Republican Party chided Arizona members of Congress Gabrielle Giffords and Harry Mitchell for turning their backs on America’s brave troops serving abroad in Iraq.

“After just four months in Washington, Harry Mitchell and Gabrielle Giffords already think they know more about making military decisions than our generals in the field,” said Pullen. “Despite what Nancy Pelosi and the ultra-liberal establishment might think, now is not the time for America to declare defeat all around the world.

“Arizona Republicans like Jeff Flake, Trent Franks, Rick Renzi, and John Shadegg, however, believe as most Arizonans do, that America’s troops come first and we applaud their votes this morning to stand by our troops and our Commander in Chief,” Pullen said.

“Congressman Mitchell and Congresswoman Giffords have let down our troops, they have let our state, and they have let down our country,” he said. “They seem to have forgotten that it is not Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat leadership that allows them the privilege of serving in Congress.

“For Congresswoman Giffords, I believe an apology is owed to every troop she just visited in Iraq, smiled at or shook hands with, and then abandoned with this vote,” Pullen said. “How can we expect to develop peace and stability overseas tomorrow when our elected officials at home are voting to set artificial deadlines for troop withdrawals today?”

The Democrat-controlled U.S. House passed bill HR 1591, by a vote of 218-212.

The controversial bill includes $10 billion in extra pork at the expense of our troops. Earmarks – including $74 million for peanut storage, $25 million for spinach farmers and $5 million for tropical fish – were added by Democratic leadership desperate to pass legislation that their own members were divided on.

The Arizona Republican delegation to the U.S. House voted to support our troops and against this measure.”
